Этимология интересна. Будто кто-то брякнул:) - а на самом деле всё не так:
БРЯНСК
Название это поначалу имело вид Дъбрянск, что говорило о непроходимых лесах, дебрях, окружавших город. Впоследствии две первые буквы названия отпали.
